Treatment Rates of Correction Review
Overview of
treatment results, illustrated by the rates of correction from 484
patients(2010) utilizing the PlagioCradle(130 patients) and the Boston Band
Helmet(354 patients).
The accompanied chart is an illustration of treatment
outcomes for Deformational Plagiocephaly in patients seen at Boston Brace/Nopco
clinics in the year 2010. This specific chart focuses on the actual rate of
correction in millimeters of absolute asymmetry of the cross-cranial
measurements. We use this metric to better understand the rate at which we are
making progress in our treatment goals of improving the actual symmetry of the
head. The patients included in this review of data were specifically narrowed to
include all patients presenting exclusively with asymmetric deformational
plagiocephaly, excluding brachycephaly, scaphocephaly, synestosis, or any other
diagnosed abnormalities. We also included only those patients presenting with
greater than 5mm of asymmetry at the start of treatment and a minimum of three
follow up clinical visits. The chart illustrated here depicts the patient
outcomes in groups, by type of treatment(Cradle/Helmet), as well as by age in
weeks.
